Acer rubrum - Great trees for landscape color and shade, Red Maple has showy flowers/seeds early in spring that really pop as they emerge before the leaves. Fall leaf color ranges from orange-red to scarlet and really stands out in the late fall landscape. As a bonus, the winged seeds husks (samaras) are fun for kids as they ‘helicopter’ fall when gently dropped! The seed inside the papery husk is edible, and the leaves are used to make a tan dye.
