Amaranth - Hopi Red Dye Heirloom

$7.00

Hopi Red Dye really stands out in the garden! Striking warm-season annual with edible young leaves and seeds. Plant a row for a blaze that leads the eye along in the garden, or against bright greens for amazing contrast.

The flowers can be used for natural food coloring - Traditional Hopi piki bread uses water that the flowers have been soaked in overnight. Can be used as a dye plant with alum as a mordant (iron will dull the color). 1 gallon plant

North Florida planting months: May, June, July, August

Full sun

Low - regular water; drought tolerant when established (best with regular water for food and flower)

Mature size: 4’-6’ tall x 1’ - 2’6” wide
